My Staffy Safety House
My rescued and rehomed Staffies!

My sad Jedda the day she arrived Jeda was a little female Staffy about nine months old that was on the lose in my local area .. she had been on the run for awhile and was too clever to be caught .. she would sit at the newsagent store some days waiting .. possibly for her family to return. After watching and studying her .. I finally convinced this little girl to get into my car and I took her home.
She was starving and gulped her food down but she was a master of escape and took off again. I searched the streets and couldn't fine her until a lady told me she was being beaten away from a home with a baseball bat a few streets away .. so off to the rescue again to find Jeda and bring her home .. needless to say she was too quick and got away again. After searching for a few more days I decided to check the pounds and sure enough there she was! Smile Jedda
Jedda loved sweets Thus my Staffy Rescue Shelter was born .. once I told the pound that I could send her to a Staffy Rescue Home in Cairns that will rehome her and give her a chance of a new life the council told me I could have Jeda but I had to get her out of the immediate area. Jeda was obviously sick and whats more she was covered in ticks .. her ears were full of them and bleeding.
I headed to the closest city .. Rockhampton where I knew I had support from a fellow staffy lover .. Max and his son set to work with me to get her ready for her flight to Cairns. We wormed her and after two hours all the ticks had been removed with tweezers and her ears cleaned and treated .. next a bath .. now Jeda looked a million dollars although still sick and suffering from dermadec probably caused from stress .. I put her on the plane to Cairns to join the replacement crew. Shane and Jedda
Jeda I had learnt a little about Jeda in the short time I had her .. she loved to be in the car .. you couldn't leave a car door opened or she would be just sitting in there waiting for a drive also Max could do anything with her so it seemed men had a calming effect on Jeda .. this told me 2 things .. she was probably owned by a man and went to work with him in a car or truck. My Cairns contact .. Gay met this sad brindle girl at the airport and introduced her to family life .. kids .. food .. a soft bed but most of all sweets.
Gay said many families came to see Jeda but when Shane pulled up in his work truck .. Jeda selected her own new family which was of cause Shane! It is still not known if it was Shane she wanted or his truck but away went Jeda with Shane and to a new life. A few months later Shane bought Jeda back to the Rescue Home and as you can see in the pictures she is a beautiful brindle Jeda and Shane
Jeda and her playmate Jena purebred .. she is almost unrecognizable as the same poor starving girl I had rescued some months earlier. Jeda has been to obedience training with Shane and has passed with flying colours .. Jeda has certificates now to prove her quality and achievements! What a wonderful family she has now. Thank you Shane.

Wags was in an outback pound and had ran out of options .. so they contacted me to find out if I wanted to save her and 2 other staffies .. Gay called them Red and Tyson .. I had them transported by truck from Central Queensland. Wags was so frightened at first
Wags after spending time with us Missy giving Wags a tummy rub
Wags was about 12 to 14 months old .. a very distress .. tiny .. unusual little staffy .. her tail had curled from chasing it through boredom and loneliness.. she was taken from her owner because of neglect .. she had been starved and left without water for days on end.
Now Wayne, Horrie and their family have given Wags the love and dedication she has never know before .. look how much love this little miss is attracting and what a difference it has made to Wags.

Tyson was sent to Cairns by truck along with Red and Wags .. this beautiful brindle 2 year old pedigree boy did not seem to be mistreated by his previous owner but somehow ended up in the pounds and was not claimed .. Tyson going or a drive
Tyson playing with Caroline Tyson saying goodbye
We did not know his name .. he had obviously been with a family who had trained him very well .. he was very out of place and lost to all that was happening to him. Scott and his 2 boys took him home to their Mum and named him Tyson. Gay says Tyson has the best home any staffy could wish for.
Scott and his family have bestowed that love into Tyson once again and thank you to all the wonderful people who come forward and help both Gay rehome these wonderful homeless staffy kids.

Red when he arrived Red was just dropped off at the pound .. it was obvious no-one wanted him nor knew the reason why he was left at the refuge .. his scares and crooked legs led us to believe he had been kicked and bashed .. his front legs had healed badly as you can see in the photo. The pound was ready to destroy him that day
because someone let him out of the enclosure with another dog and because of Red's previous mistreatment he didn't know how to behave with other animals .. this behaviour lead to him being misunderstood .. so he was in desperate need when the pound contacted me .. I pleaded to them not to destroy Red but to give me a chance to have him assessed and I threatened to drive the 7 hours to save this dog Becky helping Red to settle
Big lick for mum I just knew it had to be a human error that was causing Red to behave the way he was .. my persistence paid off and Red was saved .. for now anyway!!
Red left in the truck with Wags and Tyson for Cairns and hopefully to a new life. This red boy became very special to both Gay and Myself as he had been damaged by humans and was very broken in heart and spirit.
Gay said Bill loved Red the minute he saw him and wanted him desperately so he took Red home to a new family of 3 kids and a female staffy that needed a mate .. I thank you Bill for having the confidence and love to give this champion boy a new start in life.
Bill has let us know that Red settled in without a problem and they all love him and thank you Gay for believing in my judgement in Red and the rehab programme that restored Red's faith in humans again .. this story is what rescuing is all about!

Carol and Jewel 2001 Jewel was one of my own puppies .. Carburg Blazing Jewel .. she was a beautiful brindle pied girl and overactive to boot .. Jewel always loved my husband Allen .. they had a passionate bond from the start as Allen was with Jewel at her birth .. so while still living at home .. Jewel and Allen's relationship grew strong .. remaining inseparable .. because of my breeding program it is not easy to keep the puppies with us even when we get that special puppy like Jewel .. I knew that Jewel would always need a man in her life because of her relationship with Allen .. so when she was placed I made sure that there was a man within the family that took her.
Jewel went to a family with a two year old boy that shared everything from food to the bath tub with her .. but after a six months Jewel became unhappy and continued to escape from their yard and find her way back to me .. this was becoming a worry to me as my puppies are my family and their future is what breeding is about but I would return her repeatedly to the family. I worked solid for a week and hadn't notice that Jewel had not visited me .. then I found a message telling me Jewel was at the local pound.
Now rescuing staffy's is hard enough but when it is from your own kennel that is another story .. off to the pound and onto the animal control officer I went! I took Jewel's favourite food and even gave her a bath at the refuge .. now to contact Cairns Staffy Rescue Home to find her a new family. Allen and Jewel off again!
Allen and Jewel going for a drive Mean while my husband Allen rang from work and I told him of the mistreatment of this girl that he was once so fond of and how she was coming home on Monday to get ready to be sent to Cairns .. Allen wouldn't hear of it and made a rush trip to pick up Jewel and take back to the property with him where she belonged .. if I didn't know better I would say this little staffy planned it all. Allen isn't able to move with out Jewel at his feet .. sleeping beside us in the bedroom and loves assisting with the shopping trips from the farm to get supplies.
This staffy kid isn't going to be left behind again so Allen is always in her sight .. Allen and Jewels situation has worked for the three of us .. now Jewel can still remain registered with the Carburg Kennels and be part of my breeding programme for which she was bred. My Dads gone shopping!
Allen Having a home and a property has made it very easy to have Jewel with us .. Allen has bestowed so much love back into this little girls life .. she could have been lost in the pound system and ended up anywhere with anyone .. but now my 2 best mates have been rehomed together and are both happy .. this makes me smile .. even a husband needs extra love and attention .. he's not complaining that it happens to be from a Staffy .. so thank you Allen for taking Jewel into our home and hearts once again.

Muttley first came to my attention when the local pound let me know he had arrived .. he was a gorgeous looking boy .. were was Muttley's owner .. would they come and get him .. I waited patiently for about two weeks .. visiting regularly .. knowing now his owners were not coming to pick him up.
Muttley and Carol
Muttley story was not a happy one .. he had been rescued from a pound 2 1/2 years before this by a single young local man living in the Men's Quarters in town.
I got to meet this man and he told me he didn't want to keep Muttley chained up any longer while he was at work .. there are no fences around the quarters so to roam free meant Muttley could get hurt .. finding Muttley after work would take hours so after a lot of soul searching he surrendered Muttley to the pound .. there are no Animal Refuge out here .. the man insisted that Muttley was not to be destroyed .. he wanted Muttley to be rehomed with a family that will love him.
Muttley Waiting for the local Animal Control Officer to give me the OK to start the process of rehoming Muttley was an anxious time as I knew if I sent this boy North he would have a third chance at life .. Muttley would have a family waiting as soon as he arrived in Cairns.
Kay is the local Animal Control Officer .. what a fantastic lady .. Kay never destroys an animal if there is a chance it can be rehomed .. the staffies are safe as they all are referred to me but Kay has to try and rehome all the other animals that are neglected or unwanted.
Muttley was a rescue dog .. so rescue him I will .. I visited Muttley in the pound through the weeks that he was there .. while playing with him I noticed he was frightened and held his tail between his legs but he took to me like a duck to water on that first visit .. after regular visits .. playing .. walking and talking to Muttley he realized I wasn't going to harm him and that beautiful staffy affection set in .. Muttley loved water .. we played with the hose letting the water flow over him .. after that it was play time.
The day came went Muttley was able to leave the pound and fly to Cairns to start his new life .. I arrived armed with shampoo .. towels and flea treatments for Muttley .. there wasn't a lot of time to get ready to leave so Muttleys new family would have to take him to the Doctors for a complete checkup as soon as they took him home. Muttley
Carol and Allen I took Muttley to the farm to say goodbye to Allen and to have a run and a good stretch after his three weeks stay in the pound .. watching this little boy play was such a wonderful sight. Muttley had a great time just being able to run freely without boundaries .. he was so excited .. I'm sure Muttley covered all 20 acres before we left.
Muttley spotted the cats .. trying his paw in all directions .. sampling their food and off again .. Muttley kept me in eyes view all the time .. if I moved he would find me just to make sure I hadn't left him behind .. even Allen fell in love with this little man's nature .. so friendly .. gentle .. loving and loyal .. I realized then that he was a ladies dog. After we all posed for the camera it was time for Muttley's big trip to Cairns and a new family who where waiting for him to arrive.
Muttley happily rehomed We arrived at the airport an hour before so we could settle Muttley in for the flight to Cairns .. it was a hot humid day in Rockhampton so Allen and I stayed with Muttley so he didn't have to wait in a crate in the heat .. I have to admit a few tears were shed at the airport as I had become very attached to Muttley and I know he is going to miss me .. poor boy .. I called Gay to tell her Muttley will be there soon but more importantly his needs.
Muttley's new home must have a lady in it .. he was a ladies dog and will give so much love to the right lady .. Muttley's eyes told of trust for me and I didn't want to let him down .. my request to rehome Muttley with just the best family has happened .. thanks to Gay's Staffy Rescue Home in Cairns .. I have to admit there will aways be a soft spot for little Muttley .. some more than others tug at our heart strings .. that is what rescuing is all about!! Muttley's new family
Muttley with Katrina Update: Katrina and Jordon have sent updates of Muttley .. Katrina said that they are the envy of everyone as Muttley is the most wonderful staffy in the world .. Muttley sleeps with Jordan and goes to the shop and has long daily walks .. they are all so very happy .. Katrina says "Thank you Carol for rescueing Muttley and sending him to Cairns .. we will be eternally greatfull to you and your Staffy Safety House .. big kisses from Muttley."

Alfie is a 4 year old Staffie with papers .. coming from a very good blood line .. he was locally owned by a great family consisting of Mum .. Dad and the two children. So why is he in my Staffy Safety House .. let me tell you Alfie's story .. some months ago I had a call from Alfie's mum Donna .. she was distressed about Alfie's need to leave home .. Alfie would go walkabout every chance he got .. he would visit me at my home on a regular basis .. usually around 7.45pm .. I was normally in the office at the rear of the house .. Alfie wouldn't knock .. he'd just walk right in and park at my feet as I typed. Alfie
Same thing if I was on the lounge .. Alfie would sit and check out the programme .. poor Donna would be frantically on the phone asking had I seen Alfie .. most times the answer was Yes he's here! I'm sure Alf called in at the regular time as he'd know that I started work and he'd get a ride in the car while I done the security patrols .. Alf loved being my offsider as I went about locking up businesses in the local town before delivering him back home to Donna .. everything possible was done to try and keep Alf at home .. his yard had a seven foot high fence around it .. out of desperation it was electrified but still Alfie keep his regular appointments .. he'd just walked up the fence like a footpath and bypass the electric fence and get out over the corner post areas .. for a fast exit he would just dig under it.
Alfie
While out visiting Alf took the long way around .. sussing out how the other half lived before visiting me .. poor Alf cost his owners a small fortune bailing him out of the pound .. he was always taken home again for a repeat performance .. I felt a plan to show Donna how to keep Alf at home by doing a few simple things around the yard would do the trick but as fast as one was constructed Alf found another way out .. back visiting me and so on .. so Donna's tearful plea for help came .. Find Alfie a new loving home please!" .. they were a heart broken family ."
Parting with Alfie was going to be very painful .. although Donna didn't really want to part with Alf she knew Alfie would eventually have a car accident or the wrong people will pick him up .. Donna and her family went away on holidays ..
Carol and Allen Alf stayed in the loving care of his Gran .. I also went and looked in on Alf on the odd occasion .. Donna felt that this was the best time for Alfie to be rehomed .. while they were on holiday .. the pain wouldn't be so bad if they where not there to see it all happen. Now Allen .. my husband had moved down to the farm .. he'd lost everything he'd owned in a house fire including his precious staffy Jewel.
Now Allen knew he'd never own another staffy as no one could ever replace his darling Jewel but I needed help with Alfie while I was making the arrangements to rehome him .. Allen agreed to have Alfie on the farm where there were no gates and fences .. but he insisted it was just until I found a home for Alfie ..Allen waited while I went and picked up Alfie from Grans and bought him back in the Suzuki car .. Alfie was sitting in the front seat restrained in a harness and seat belt .. I covered the back seat of Allen's Mercedes for Alfie's trip back to the farm but on Allen's insistence Alf was placed in the front seat .. this was where his beloved Jewel always sat .. half an hour from home Allen pulled up at the Kabra Hotel to cash a cheque so he could buy Alf meat on the way home .. Allen's story is that he wasn't in the hotel five minutes when Alf sat at his feet .. now this boy was in a seat belt and still had his harness on .. Yes Alf had ate the seat belt in the Mercedes to go and get Allen out of the pub .. I like this boy! .. As far as Allen is concerned it's not important .. He just goes and buys another seat belt for the car .. Alf only needed an area without restrictions to run freely.
Alfe and Allen Alfie has taken over the 20 acres on the farm and is having an ball .. Alf plays with the cat and her kitten .. shares and prefers the cat biscuits to his own .. of course he gets the best steaks as well .. Alfie has become a avid farmer and valued family member on this small property .. he is extremely territorial around the farm .. making sure the rabbits don't eat his grass in his paddocks .. getting right behind them and herding them across the fence line .. telling them to find their own family with a farm like he had to .. so buzz off!
Alf has become extremely protective of Allen as well .. the old Aussie slap on the back or pat on the shoulders by Allen's mates had to stop or Alfie would fly into action and send Allen's visitors to the fence line with the rabbits .. thank God Alfie likes me or one of us would have to go .. now that could be a worry .. Alf had a car accident recently .. he went to sleep under Allen's car and Allen drove over him .. he's recovered very well but doesn't sleep under the car any more. Alfie hasn't replaced Jewel .. Allen just moved over and let Alfie in .. Alf has mended a broken heart that's for sure and has become Allens very best buddy .. after a few weeks on the farm Alf has bodily filled out into a great looking staffy .. he has muscles in his back and thighs that he never had before .. exercise is such a necessity for staffys to develop properly .. Alf is here to stay as a important and loved part of our family although we miss the rabbits .. he is a great companion for Allen .. he is bathed .. fed .. watches television and actually tries to take over the water bed and above all is very much loved in his new home.

BLACKWATER CENTRAL QUEENSLAND

MUGS has gone into the loving care of a young man who resides with his Grandmother .. Mugs will have so much love .. it is incredible to watch the affection in the eyes of his new owner.

Ringo

RINGO had gone to Tania and her Family.

How did these 2 Staffy Boys end up in a pound on Death Row!
told by Carol

Ringo belonged to a young man from the Western region .. he was left with a friend of Ringo's owner while he went on holiday about 6 months ago .. unfortunately Ringo's owner did not make it back home after holidaying .. he was killed in a motor accident .. this young man .. a dedicated and loyal friend of his deceased mate retained Ringo as his own boy along with his own little friend Mugs( in his home.

Both the boys were impounded about 3 weeks ago .. they have spent their time just waiting for another owner to come along and love them as they certainally were accustomed by the young man who had cared for them up until his time .. he can out to the pound last night while I was taking delivery of his boys .. broken heartedly handing over Ringos' blanket and a quantity of pigs ears for his kids .. we spoke at length for some time after he had played with both the boys at length .. I have to admit ths young man's actions still pull on my heart strings this morning as I write this story.

The young owner is a coal miner out West .. he tells me Mugs is an escape artist and had taught Ringo how to also escape .. this young man works long days doing 12 hour shifts .. he explained he was going to surrender both dogs to the the Mackay Rescue as he knew he just did not have the time both dogs deserved and needed .. his rent is huge .. so he could not afford the vacinations let alone the fee to bail both boys out .. on this he had seriously hoped someone would love the boys enough to give them both a new home .. hopefully together as this had been the position for them while he had cared for them.

Although this was not to be the direct case their was to be a great ending .. Ringo had gone to Tania and her Family and Mugs has gone into the loving care of a young man who resides with his Grandmother .. Mugs will have so much love .. it was incredible to watch the affection in the eyes of his new owner .. he is also a friend of Tanias' so the dogs will still get together from time to time.

As I pulled into Tanias' home last night I truly have never seen such a welcoming committee for two beautiful boys .. there were teenagers sitting out in the street on the gutters waiting our arrival .. my estimate there were easily a dozen children waiting to view these 2 Staffies .. I asked Tania about the teenagers who were watching on .. she told me she was a Councillor so many children come to visit her and her family.

Both boys will be taken to the vets next week for desexing .. vacinations and microchipping .. I know these boys will be given the best care and I shall go and visit them as I pass through the little town they now reside in.

To the previous owner .. I have to say THANK YOU for your consideration to the welfare of your 2 Staffies . . they are certainally in loving .. caring homes and I can promise you I shall remain in touch with both new owners.
