Carols Staffy Tips

Great beds for Staffys

"I always treat my Staffys the same as I would my human family!"

Deterring Fleas

For heavily invested fleas on an animal cover your pet heavily in Palmolive dishwashing liquid and allow this to remain on your pet for 5-10 minutes. Massage the dishwashing liquid well into your pet's coat .. then wash all soap from your pet and the fleas will lift off in the detergent. This is a good one to use when taken by surprise when you have no shampoo handy to treat your pet.

Preventing Insect Bites

To avoid Sand fly .. Mosquito and other Insect bites spray your animal lightly with 'Skintastic Insect Repellent Aerosol' made by Johnson Wax or 'Rid Roll On Repellent' .. these products can be purchased at your supermarket or corner store. There are other repellents on the market but I had the best results from these products.

Snake Bite

This information came from a 'Shooters Magazine" .. I admit I have never had an occasion to use this remedy .. .. here goes .. If you live where there are snakes always have on hand .. 1 bottle of Injectable Vitamin C .. 2 Syringes and a 21 gauge needle .. after the dog is bitten wait for the dog to collapsed on the ground then inject 20 mills of *Vitamin C under the skin on the back of the dogs neck ..if there is no improvement within a few minutes repeat the injection again as before .. get your dog to a Vet as soon as you are able.
*Vitamin C overdose will not hurt your dog .. at the worst it can sometimes cause diarrhea.

Itchy Skin

Often staffies get 'Itchy Skin' from grass seed or just from dragging their belly area across the lawn .. they tend to scratch the itchy area especially under the arm pits .. the area becomes inflamed from the scratching .. so to help relieve the itch and get rid of the scabby or scaly skin buy a packet of 'Bi Carb Soda' and put 3 tablespoons in a mug and add cold water until you have a paste .. wet the dog all over with warm water and massage the paste into the itchy and scratched or lumpy areas with the tips of your fingers .. leave for about 3 minutes then rinse the paste off and shampoo the dog .. towel dry the dog .. rub Vitamin E cream into the lumpy areas at least 3 times a day .. you can rub the Vitamin E cream in as often as you like .. this remedy will take the redness out of the skin and put moisture back into the animals skin .. if itching persists you can repeat the treatment as often as necessary.
Bi Carb Soda can be bought from any grocery store.

Sore Back

When one of my puppies was 4 weeks old his back legs became 'flippers' after his Mum stepped on him so I took him to a neuropath .. after the first treatment the puppy could walk .. after the second treatment the puppy was running and back to normal .. his discs where out .. I have used this 'people' treatment for my puppies successfully many times since.

Losing Hair

I have found that Staffys can lose their hair [fur] from bites or after having puppies [whelping] so 3 weeks before giving birth .. to avoid lose of hair I give my 'Mother To Be' 500mg table of Folic Acid' and '1000mg tablet of evening primrose oil'.
If your dog is losing hair start the above treatment and rub Vitamin E cream into the bald patch 3 times a day .. I have found theVitamin E cream seems to promote the hair growth within 10 days.

Dry Coat

Massage Vitamin E cream through the coat [fur] 2 times a day

Worming Newly Born Puppies

All puppies should be first wormed at 2 weeks old and then every 2 weeks until they are 12 weeks old .. when your puppy is 12 weeks old you worm it once a month until it is 6 months old .. once it is 6 months old you worm your dog every 3 months.
Please remember "This is not heart worm treatment .. heart worm is treated separately"!
